The Velvet Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to establishing a National Museum of American LGBT History & Culture in Washington, DC. The museum will serve as a forum for the identification, study, and dissemination of the social, historical, and cultural contributions of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community—and its relation within the larger society—through collections, exhibitions, research, publications, and other public programs.

PROJECT UPDATES
February 2010: The Foundation is pleased to announce that Daniel Diez and his LGBT group at Jack Morton is currently in the process of redesigning the Foundation's Web site. The new site should be up and running by mid-March.
February 2010: Deacon Maccubbin, owner of the recently closed Dupont landmark, Lambda Rising, has generously donated several items to the Foundation for its permanent collection, including the original Lambda Rising silk-screened sign that hung in the front window of the S Street location in 1977.
January 2010: The Foundation is pleased to announce that the Arcus Foundation has recently awarded the organization a generous grant in the amount of $70,000 for allocation toward the development of the initial first phase of its comprehensive museum master plan.
June 2009: Following a successful event in Washington DC, the Velvet Foundation is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Kameny Papers Project’s remaining artifacts. The collection is now part of the Foundation’s permanent collection.
